Med 2.0 Radio #01: Len Starnes

by shwen No Comments »

In OCT 2007, I attended the inaugural Digital Pharma conference in Princeton, NJ. While I was there as part of a panel discussing “The Present & Future of Marketing: Where “e” is indistinguishable from the Old Channels“, I also met a lot of interesting people in the pharma e-marketing space.I didn’t get a chance to blog on the conference itself, but John Mack over at the Pharma Marketing Blog has a nice write-up.

Anyway, one of those interesting people that I met, was Len Starnes, Head of E-Business, Primary Care, Bayer Schering Pharma AG (boy, that’s a long title to carry around), who was there representing a panel on “The Paradigm Shift: Web 2.0 and the New Era Of Pharmaceutical Marketing“.

I caught up with Len during a break between sessions and did the recording in the main conference room, so the background noise may be a little distracting, but hopefully not too much.

Interview with Len Starnes:
- Head of E-Business, Primary Care,
Bayer Schering Pharma AG

In this episode, Shwen talks to Len Starnes about:
- His experience launching an international
Multiple Sclerosis community forum
- Global regulatory issues with a pharma-sponsored forum for patients
- Any Web 2.0 considerations for the future
- How Web 2.0 can be applied in the health/pharma industry and where it is going
- 5 question quickfire round

The Return of the Podcast: Med 2.0 Radio

by shwen No Comments »

So here it is folks (finally)…The return of the podcast!

I took most of 2007 off from blogging and podcasting due to my heavy work and travel schedule, so I’m really happy to be finally getting back into it with my newly re-branded, re-designed, and relaunched blog (Med 2.0) and podcast (Med 2.0 Radio).

Over the next few weeks, I will be releasing episodes of the Med 2.0 podcast that feature a number of interviews that I recorded towards the end of 2007, at various conferences that I attended (Digital Pharma, Podcast and New Media Expo, PodCamp Boston 2, etc). After that, I hope to publish new interviews on a regular basis; perhaps once every two weeks to a month.

PODCAST SPONSORSHIP:

At the end of last year, I was approached by Rob Walch (Podcast 411) from Wizzard Media’s (LibSyn) Ad Network, who asked me if I was interested in being sponsored by the US Navy for my medical-related podcast. Of course I was interested, but due to my immigration status (I’m a “resident alien” with a work visa), I decided not to accept any payment for the sponsorship. Instead, I will donate whatever I “earn” to a charity of my choice at the end of the 6 month term.

So, please tell your friends (especially the medically-inclined kind) about this podcast and ask them to download/listen. Also, if you’d like to suggest a good charity, please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email at: shwen[at]med20.com (replace [at] with the @ symbol).

I’m Speaking @ The 2006 Podcast and Portable Media Expo

by shwen No Comments »

In the inaugural episode of ETech@Work, I interviewed Tim Bourquin–host of the Podcast Brothers and CEO and Founder of TNC New Media–about the business-side of podcasting. Well, I’m pleased to announce that Tim recently invited me to join a panel session at his Podcast and Portable Media Expo (Ontario, CA) on SEP 29th-30th, 2006. I will also be joined on the panel by my friend, Kathleen Gilroy, CEO of the Otter Group (which I also sit on the advisory board for).

Here’s a synopsis of the session:

Beyond the Playlist: Driving Innovative Thinking Through Podcasting
Track 2: Podcasting as a Business
Instructors: Shwen Gwee, Kathleen Gilroy
Room: Ballroom A
Description: Developing innovative ideas for new products or services within an organization is a complex task when your team is already inundated with information and day-to-day operations. Podcasting–with it’s ease of distribution and updates, portability, “time-shifting” capabilities, and copious amounts of content–can ease the burden of the daily grind and directly or indirectly facilitate creative thinking and drive innovation. In this session, you’ll hear from experts in e-learning and corporate training who will discuss using new media to spur innovation and “thinking out of the box” in any organization.

I’m very excited to be part of the expo this year (I also attended lthe first one last year) and look forward to the opportunity to meeting many of you there. Don’t forget to book accomodations–there are limited numbers of “conference rate” rooms.

Check out all the new tracks they have this year!
